Today I had the pleasure of photographing the Hickey clan. What a blast!! Helen's children are gloriously gorgeous (as is she and her hubby Tom!!). We had a fabulous time and I got some really wonderful shots of the family. I hope you guys like them! What an amazing family. Never a dull moment. Though I have to say I dont know how you do it my dear!!!

And another one from a session i did recently with Olivia. A very mini session. My girls have very little patience when they see me with my camera LOL. I generally get only a few moments. This also explains Olivia's pained expressions which do tend to translate rather well for the camera. But trust me, she is just hacked off. Hehe. I should not spoil the image by telling you that though! Aaaaanyway...I do seem to have a bit of a thing for Brothers Grimm and all that dark fairytale stuff. I like to create these kinds of images for myself. Perhaps I will do a whole series until something else comes along and tickles-me-fancy!!
But, for now, enjoy :)

So sorry I have not been posting much lately but I have been busy trying to sort out business things!! I have finally created my business cards and have a new website www.lightsongsphotography.com ~ go check it out! It looks pretty good.
Also still waiting to hear about the KL Photo Awards! 7th May is the announcement date. I am too excited and have to keep pushing it to the back of my mind...Even if I don't win, I won't mind, for two reasons. Firstly because of the high quality of images included in the competition and secondly because the organisers contacted me a couple of weeks ago to ask if they could use my image for the cover of the catalogue which is to accompany the Exhibition!! Of course I said, yes!
Anyway, here are a few more photos from the archives and a couple of new ones too. Enjoy!
Talk soon xx

Estee, the beautiful pregnant mother...

The dreaded shoulder pain is back! Just to remind me that there is suffering in the world, lest I should forget. That is ok. I can handle it and I see what lessons are to be learned. Today I arranged for a Kung Fu master healer to come and work on it...and he made me cry. He manipulated so many sore points around my scapula and in my arm and he would not stop even when I told him to! Olivia and Imogen were most unsettled during the process and kept coming in to give me presents to make the pain better! Anyway, fingers crossed that the Alternative route works!
Here are a couple of pics of my angels. There are many angels in my life but these two are the most important ones. They are such wonderful sisters to each other too. Ninety-five per cent of the time anyway. Olivia posed for this photo first and then Imogen told me that she wanted to do the same pose as she could do it better!!
Yes, I believe in angels. They are all around us and we only have to open our hearts to hear their whisperings and words...
Oh and just as a note of interest, these photos were taken at ISO 1600 as it was pretty dull outside. Came out quite nicely...I love my 5D mark II :)

Here are a few photos from a session I did yesterday with the most gorgeous young lady and her beautiful little baby girl who really seemed to have an old soul. She was trying to watch everything and kept gazing into my lens! It was such a pleasure to photograph them, baby was as good as gold and mommy was very patient and easy-going.
Enjoy!

goblin wood
This is a selection from the series I did for the KL Portrait Awards contest. Olivia was the most wonderful model as usual. I dont know how she does it. I told her there were goblins about and so she is looking for them. Don't worry, she knows there are no goblins after her for real, but she was only too happy to play along. So I just followed her around with the camera and we had a great time. I also had great fun editing these...I really wanted to create a dark but magical feel with them. Her dress btw, was from a super cheap local material store here and in reality is a burgundy colour. It was exactly what I was looking for. There was only one on the rack and it fitted Olivia just right. I was very lucky to find it. If I had not found this dress, I would not have done the session and would not now be a finalist in the KL Portrait Award contest!!
Methinks it was fate.
:)
Every now and again I like to try and create something a little more arty than the average client photographs. Which is not to say that anything is wrong with classic, close up portraits. On the contrary, I LOVE them. But things get a bit boring for me. I have, as you can imagine, hundreds...if not thousands, of photos of my girls. So like I said, every now and again I get the urge to venture into the hot and humid outdoors to capture something different. Note that it really is very hot and very humid here and outdoor portrait sessions are not easy. Especially when children are involved lol!! Anyhoo, here is a selection of my favourite personal images. As opposed to my personal favourites. Although I guess they are that too!
Hope you enjoy them :)

And speaking of competitions...I have been chosen as one of 23 finalists in the Professional category of the KL Portrait Awards contest for 2009! The winner is decided on by public vote, so i will also be posting a link to the competition's voting page when it becomes available. Voting starts March 20th. I remember telling a good friend of mine that if i just made it as a finalist I would be happy. And when I got the email telling me I HAD, well, i quite literally jumped for joy. I was at the Westin Hotel in Melbourne at the time and am not quite sure what the people in the rooms next door thought as i really did scream out rather loudly! The image above is the one the judges chose. After attending the above mentioned seminar, which was incidentally the Rob Heyman Photography workshop (more on that later) I think I will probably do a little more work on this before I send the large file for them to print. It could do with a little more darkening and Olivia (my muse and model) could do with a some shadowing to add a little depth.
Ok, well that is it for my first post. All that remains to get this show on the road is to show you the kind of work I will be focusing on more from now on. I have decided to move away slightly from the super bright kinds of images of late and produce more classical images...images I acutally prefer. Images that won't date quite so quickly. Sure, anyone who wants the modern, funky, bright and colourful stuff can have it, but I want Light Songs to be more about beauty and elegance. All with a modern twist of course.
So, hope you enjoy these images...
Back soon,
Kerry :)
